frequently asked questions

is there anything I need to know before joining the skates?
  • you skate at your own risk

  • these are not beginner skates

  • you must be able to control your speed, and stop

  • you will be in active traffic, obey the traffic rules

  • follow the direction of marshals and skate leads

  • be respectful of everyone, fellow skaters, pedestrians, and cars alike

  • expect some rough road conditions like potholes or uneven pavement

  • wear a helmet and wrist guards

  • wear light/reflective gear for night skates

  • call out and/or signal upcoming road conditions and turns to skaters behind you

     

what are the skill levels required for the skates?
  • You must be able to safely navigate city streets, turn, control your speed downhill, and stop. We skate on roads with active traffic. Participation is entirely at your own risk. Follow the instructions of skate leads, marshals and sweep, obey traffic rules, and of course be kind and aware of pedestrians and cars.


 

is safety gear required?
  • You skate at your own risk. We recommend at least a helmet and wrist guards for all skates. Lights and high visibility clothing are advisable for night skates.


 

what time do skates meet and what time do they roll?
  • Every skate meets on the hour and rolls on the half hour sharp. Please check each skate schedule for the meet times.


 

where do the skates start?


 

i missed the start of the skate, how do i catch up?
  • You can follow us live on Glympse. Some skates have mid-way meeting points. Please review the details for each skate for more information.


 

what if i need to leave the skate early?
  • You can always use public transportation or Uber and Lyft. Google Maps and the Transit app provide options for how to get around Boston! They both show routes and stops needed for getting to where you’d like. Remember to bring shoes for transit and the stations.​​

what are the parking options near the skate start?
  • You can park at South Station Parking Garage, a short skate distance from the start for $10 - their special night and weekend rate. Additionally you can use SpotHero to find parking nearby. â€‹â€‹

how do i get from the airport to the hotel?
  • Take the Silver Line SL1 from any terminal to Courthouse. The SL1 is free from Logan Airport.  (MBTA Schedule)


 

how do i get around boston with public transportation?
  • You can use the T (aka the subway) or the bus.  Contactless payment Tap to Ride is available for MBTA services. Alternatively you can buy tickets at T stations: the one-way fare is $2.40 for the subway, $1.70 for the bus. You can use Google Maps to plan your trips. Skates are not permitted in MBTA vehicles and stations, so bring shoes. Find more about fare info here.


 

what are the food & amenity options around the hotel?
  • Seaport has a plethora of restaurants and bars right next to the hotel. There are bougie options as well as quick and easy staples all within a five minute walk. There is also a Trader Joes and a CVS within a 30 second walk of the hotel.


 

can i get a late check out at the hotel?
  • Our host hotel offers two flexible options for late check out - please ask for it as you check in: for an additional $25 you are guaranteed 1pm late check out, and if it is available for $50 you can check out at 3pm! -- please confirm your preference as you check in! And, you can always leave your luggage with the hotel and attend the skate.
